History Of Sony Company

Sony Corporation pioneered and established the first time in Japan by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita in September 1945. After a long process and a world war, started to move large Sony products. At that time, CI or Corperate Identity is something strange and rarely heard by the public. However, although Sony at that time still a small company that is not known, they have started to implement Corporate Identity. In 1955, Ibuka and Morita registered trademark of Sony as their homemade products in order to better known by the public. Sony name itself comes from the Latin "Sonus" meaning tone or sound. Deformation of this word is translated in a very simple logo and very easy to remember. Sony logo is only a slight change since 1957, namely in the form of thinning and widening of the Sony case. Sony logo is now used never again experienced significant changes since 1973.

Sony was founded on May 7th, 1946 under the name Tokyo Telecommunications Company with approximately 20 employees. Their first consumer product was a rice cooker in the late 1940s. Along with the development of Sony as a big international company, he bought another company that has a longer history, including Columbia Records (the oldest record company that still exists, was founded in 1888).

When Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo was looking for names that have been romanized (not in Japan or in writing) to market their companies, they are strongly considering using their abbreviations, TTK. The reason they did not choose it is because there Kyuko Tokyo railway company then known as TKK.

The name "Sony" was chosen as the union of Latin word Sonus, which is the root of sonic and sound, and the English word sonny ("children") that after the combined means of a small group of young people who have energy and willpower to creativity and innovation are not ideas terbataskan. At that time, it is very strange for a Japanese company to use Roman letters to spell his name, let alone use the phonetic alphabet used in writing the Japanese language (instead of using scripts Tionghoa). And in 1958 the company began to formally adopt the name "Sony Corporation" as the name of the company. Easy to use and easy to spell in all languages of the world. Name Sony menggaungkan spirit of freedom and openness in innovation.

This step is getting opposition; TTK bank is a sponsor at the time, Mitsui has a strong persaan of the name. They wanted a name such as Sony Electronic Industries, or Sony Teletech. But the establishment of Akio Morita was firm, because he does not want the company name associated with any industry. Finally, the Chairman and President Masaru Ibuka Bandai gave its approval.

In 1988, Sony bought CBS (Columbia) Records Group from CBS. He later renamed "Sony Music Entertainment."

In 2000, Sony had sales of U.S. $ 63 billion and 189 700 employees. Aiwa Sony acquired the company in 2002.

Sony also has a television channel in India and the channels that are designated for the Indian community in Europe.

Sony Standard

Sony is famous for its history of creation is often impose their own standards for recording and storage technologies, which often differ from other companies made / from the trend in the market. The most famous of all was the video cassette format war in the early 1980s, when Sony marketed the Betamax system for their video cassette recorders against artificial JVC VHS format. In the end, VHS gain a place in the broader market and become the world standard for home video cassette recorder and Sony was forced to relent.

Sony continues to try the same tactic with the rest of their creation of technology; eg the format of their digital recordings, Minidisc encouraged to be a substitute for an audio cassette while his rivals chose the CD-R and MP3.

Sony also uses a large scale their MemoryStick memory modules for digital cameras and other portable devices, a few other companies use. Sony is also trying to compete with Iomega Zip drives and Imation Superdisk through their homemade HiFD but fails big.

On July 20, 2004, the EU approved the merger between Sony Music Entertainment 50-50 and BMG. The new company will be called Sony BMG and Universal will co co RIAA, controlled 60% of the world music market.
